Something

The Beatles

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me

I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

You're asking me will my love grow
I don't know, I don't know
You stick around now it may show
I don't know, I don't know

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe her now

Notes

Frank Sinatra said that “Something” by The Beatles was the greatest love song written in the past 60 years. It was John Lennon’s favorite song from the “Abbey Road” album. "Something" has been recorded more than 150 times by other artists.

George Harrison wrote "Something" while The Beatles were recording “The White Album.” He came up with the title while listening to the James Taylor song, “Something in the Way She Moves.”

Though Harrison claimed that he did not have anybody in mind when he wrote "Something," it is commonly assumed that the song is about his wife, Pattie. Pattie Boyd and George were married for eight years, divorced, and then Eric Clapton married Pattie. Clapton’s “Layla” is about Pattie as is his song, “Wonderful Tonight.” Harrison's "What is Life" was also inspired by Pattie.

Harrison wrote "Something" on piano and had Ray Charles in mind for the vocals. Charles recorded his version years later. James Brown’s version was actually Harrison’s favorite.
